That copywrite act is back to haunt us!

Well, I thought we had won... I was wrong.

The govt have come back with a re-write of the act. Not to sure on the details but It might be released at around August. This means, as before, we can't download music, YouTube, P2P (Peer to Peer, ie. torrents etc.) and anything else remotely related to that sort.

We may get aprox. 3 warnings from our ISP's (Internet Service Provider's, ie. Xtra, Slingshot etc.) before they terminate your connection. But still, that sucks!

Will keep you updated.

WOO-HOO!

WOO-HOO! Goodbye Copywrite Amendment Act! Thnx Guys!:D

It look's like they've finally giving up. We've got the message through and the government has changed it's mind!... With a catch...

Turns out they're re-writing it, I hope it doesn't have the rule the old one had where you can't download free thing's like song's (admit it, everyone does it). But it look's like we'll have to play the waiting game for now.

We'll keep you updated...

What The Pro's Say on S92a...

Posted by Stingers Studios on February 18, 2009 at 3:36 AM Comments comments (0)

Hi,

I've just become aware about some major proposed changes in NZ law that will have a huge impact on artists, businesses, and general members of the public: basically anyone that uses the internet, and I thought you should know about them.

The Section 92 of the Copyright Amendment Act assumes Guilt Upon Accusation and forces the termination of internet connections and websites without evidence, without a fair trial, and without punishment for any false accusations of copyright infringement. We should speak out against injustices like Guilt Upon Accusation being done in the name of artists and protecting creativity.

The countdown is on: we have until 28 February 2009 to influence government.
An organisation called the Creative Freedom Foundation has been set up to specifically represent artists voices on these issues. Check out their website: www.creativefreedom.org.nz, sign up and help our MPs make an informed decision about S92!

(Our use of "Section 92" refers specifically to Section 92a and Section 92c, not Section 92b or 92d, etc. This is done for brevity)

IMPORTANT! Guilt Apon Accusation Law S92a

Iv'e been looking around and it appears that our (NZ's) new government are going a little too far. A new law is being released on February 28th 2009! called the "Guilt Apon Accusation Law S92a".

This law involves our internet. What it means is, if this passes, websites and even internet conections will be terminated if a site contains things such as free mp3's (which they now consider 'illegal') or if they catch someone downloading anything without paying (unless it's legal freeware).

Put in different wording, it means If this law goes through they can pull mythkiwi.com, stingerstudios.co.cc (or .webs.com) or any other NZ site off the net simply under the suspicion of copyright infringement. You aren't even safe at home, they can block your precious broadband connection under suspicion that you grabbed an mp3 without paying. Way to go politicians, thats exactly what we want!

And as you would guess, the internet community is going nuts! The're outraged just like me and everyone else I know!

So please, PLEASE sign this petition against law S92a!

Oh and by the way, if this hasnt yet made you think to sign, theres also something about YouTube now doing everything they can to block people downloading vids. That means now u will have to pay $$$ if u want to download vids and can can only be done on selected vids. Did that change your mind? If so click here.

So many people tut and say "Someone should do something", but few people step foward and say "...and that someone is me!" (Terry Pratchett).
